To the Rav, distinguished chassid* who has yiras Shamayim*, Rav I.[1],

Greetings and blessings,

Enclosed you will find the kuntres* edited on the occasion of the festival of Shavuos*[2]. You will make it available to the greatest number, in the manner that is most fitting. Whoever can act in this regard must do so. The merit of all depends on it, and it will come to your aid[3] for you to know success in this task.

It is known[4] that at every festival, the content assigned to it manifests itself anew when it occurs.

Thus, at the festival of Matzos*, one comes out of Egypt. On Lag BaOmer*, one receives the revelation of the inner part of Torah.

The moment is then particularly auspicious for arousing and deeply internalizing these elements.

These days are those of the giving of our Torah. They are auspicious[5], for the auspicious people[6], who then receive an auspicious element, the Torah[7], in a joyous and deep manner.

But the Holy One, blessed be He, said to Israel: "Propose to Me good guarantors, assuring Me that you will observe the Torah. Then I will give it to you." The only guarantors that He accepted were the children. When those who were to receive the Torah said: "Our children will be our guarantors," and we will educate them on the way of Torah, Hashem then answered[8]: "Without doubt, these are good guarantors, and thanks to them, I will give it to you."

What was true then is still so at the present hour.

Each one of us, preparing himself for the time of the giving of our Torah, which is approaching, must do everything in his power to educate his children on the path of Torah, take the decision, commit himself on this path, with the greatest firmness, for the days that will follow the receiving of the Torah.

Every Jew bears responsibility for all the others.

The effort previously defined, if it bears only on the education of one's own children, is not at all sufficient.

Without doubt, each one can exert his influence, at least up to a certain point, so that the children of his immediate vicinity also receive a good education. Sometimes one can also act for children who are distant or even find themselves in another country.

If each one is bound to act to strengthen good chinuch* in the place where he is, to establish it where it does not yet exist, how much more must one gather all his strengths and fight against any initiative tending to separate children who already receive a good education, to distance them from the Torah of Hashem, especially if these are at risk, by such means, of abjuring, chas v'shalom*.

And one knows the promise that has been made to us by our Sages[9]: "Each time the Jews exert themselves to obtain a certain result, they reach their end."

וכל מי שיש בידו כו'. וזכות הרבים תלוי בו, ולכן גם יסייע אותו בזה גופא, להצליח בהשפעתו זו.

ידוע אשר בימי המועדים ורגלים שבכל שנה ושנה מתעוררים הענינים השייכים אליהם

- בחג המצות ענין יציאת

מצרים, בל"ג בעומר גילוי

פנימיות התורה וכו' -

ושעת הכושר מיוחד היא אז להמשכה וקליטה פנימית של ענינים אלו בפרט.

וימים אלו דזמן מתן תורתנו - ימי סגולה הם לעם סגולה לקבלת הסגולה היא התורה בשמחה ובפנימיות.

אבל - אמר הקב"ה לישראל הביאו לי ערבים טובים שתשמרו את התורה ואני נותנה לכם. והערבות שמקבל מהם היא רק ערבות הבנים. כשאמרו מקבלי התורה בנינו עורבים אותנו (שנחנכם בדרך התורה) אמר הקב"ה הא ודאי ערבים טובים, על ידיהם אתננה לכם.

וכאז כן עתה .

על כאו"א מאתנו, בהכינו את עצמו לזמן מתן תורתינו הבע"ל, לעשות עתה ככל יכלתו בחנוך הבנים והבנות בדרך התורה, ולהחליט ולקחת על עצמו להשתדל ביתר שאת וביתר עז בזה לימים יבואו אחרי קבלת התורה.

וכל ישראל ערבים זה בזה .

השתדלות הנ"ל, אם תהי' רק בחנוך בניו ובנותיו הוא בלבד - אינה מספקת כלל.

כאו"א בטח יכול להשפיע - במדה ידועה על כל פנים - על החינוך של בני ובנות ישראל בסביבתו הסמוכה, ולפעמים גם על חנוך אלו הנמצאים בריחוק מקום, או גם במדינה אחרת.

ואם כאו"א מחוייב בהשתדלות לחזק ולהרחיב את החינוך הכשר במקום שהוא נמצא כבר, ובהשתדלותו להנהיגו במקום שלעת עתה אין מכירים בו,

על אחת כמה וכמה שצריך הוא להתקומם בכל עוז ולהלחם נגד כל פעולה וענין שעלול הוא לנתק את הבן והבת המתחנכים בדרך התורה מחינוכם זה, שעלול להרחיקם מתורת אלקים חיים, ומכל שכן אם עלול להביאם לידי כפירה, ח"ו.

וידועה הבטחת חז"ל: כל דבר שנתנו ישראל נפשם עליו הרי נתקיים בידם.
