Greetings and blessings,

After we met at the shul*, I did not have the opportunity to see you again. I therefore write to you and address my blessing to you, to your son, and to your son-in-law. You will derive much nachas* from your grandson, their son. You will educate him to Torah, to chuppah*, and to good deeds.

We are approaching the festival of Shavuos*, the time of the giving of our Torah. The Midrash* relates that Hashem then asked for guarantors. It was only when the children of Israel proposed, to assume this role, their children, who would put the Torah into practice, that Hashem agreed to give them the holy Torah.

Such is therefore the lesson that is delivered to each of us. Whoever desires to receive the Torah in the proper way must strive to ensure that his children and grandchildren, as well as the children of other Jews, receive an education based on Torah. He must come to the aid of the institutions and of the persons who organize a good education for Jewish children, so that they may become observant adults.

With my blessing for a joyous festival, greeting your son-in-law and your daughter, and wishing you Mazel Tov*,

. . .בתשעת הימים ,נזכרים כולם במאמר רז״ל ,שהחורבן הי׳ בגלל

חטא שנאת חנם ,זאת אומרת לא לאהוב את הזולת ללא כל נימוק ,וללא כל

יסוד ,אנו ,כל היהודים ,רוצים הרי לצאת מהגלות כמה שיותר מוקדם,

במילא יש להסיר את הסיבה שגרמה לגלות ,שהתיקון לכך הוא ״אהבת

חנם״ ,כלומר לאהוב יהודי ללא נימוק ,ואפילו יהודי כזה שלעם ישראל אין

ממנו טובה ,ולא יודעים האם בכלל יש לאיזשהו יהודי טובה ממנו ,וספק

אם אפשר ליחס לו את הפסוק ואהבת לרעך כמוך ,כי איננו רעך ר״ל ,הוא

לא לומד תורה ולא מקיים מצוות ,אך באה ״אהבת חנם״ שגם יהודי כזה

יאהבו ,וכשנוהגים כך ,מסירים בזה את הסיבה שגרמה לחורבן ולגלות,

ובכך מאיר יהודי את פינתו ,במילא נעשה אור בחלקו בעולם ונוספת יותר

אורה ,עד שסוף כל סוף יאירו את הגלות ונזכה לגאולה השלימה והאמיתית

בעגלא דידן ע״י משיח צדקנו.
