Greetings and blessings[1],

I reply to your letter written at the end of Shabbos Tazria, by which you ask me whether you should accept the proposal of Agudas Yisroel, which entrusts you with a mission, for the duration of the summer, with a directress-teacher of the Beis Yaakov*[2]. You will both be the delegates of the "young women of Agudas Yisroel"[3] in Western Europe, to found there a branch of Beis Yaakov*, of Batya, and of the young women of Agudas Yisroel. You will also have to collect funds to accomplish all this. You request my consent in this matter.

If it concerns founding branches of Beis Yaakov*, this initiative is very positive. On the other hand, to the extent possible, one should avoid collecting funds.

You ask me whether I give you my consent for a journey by airplane, insofar as it is impossible to travel by boat. The journey will go well if it takes place in good weather and if you choose a large airplane.

As to the question itself that is posed, I am somewhat surprised by it, knowing the situation in Eretz Yisroel*. There are found there a great number of children who must receive a good chinuch*, allowing them to acquire Torah and yiras Shamayim*. Each support that can be brought to local educational action is precious.

Moreover, at every instant, every hour, every day, children are distanced from their roots. Subsequently, it is difficult to bring them closer to this good chinuch*. Consequently, instead of going to a country where the outcome of your efforts is not assured, where you may have nothing to do, where the personnel may possibly be found locally, why not concern yourself with the hundreds, the thousands of children who are right there on the spot, in danger of moral perdition, chas v'shalom*?

All those who find themselves in this country[4] must therefore feel an imperative and sacred obligation to act, to the full extent possible, for the salvation of these neshamos*. They must convince other persons to do the same. Indeed, "whoever saves a Jewish neshama* is considered as if he had preserved the entire world." Now, it concerns, in this case, tens, hundreds, thousands of neshamos*.

I would like to know whether the teachers and the members of the association who gather, from time to time, to examine the points on the agenda, also evoke the history of the chassidic movement and some appropriate notions of Chassidus*. I would like to have knowledge, in particular, of your personal intervention in the matter.

You will transmit a warm greeting to your parents and you will wish them all good, for them and for all theirs.

במענה על מכתבה ממוצש"ק תזריע, בו שואלת אם תקבל הצעת "אגודת ישראל" לנסוע יחד עם מנהלת-מורה ג"כ מ"בית יעקב" למשך זמן החופש כשליחות מטעם "בנות אגו"י" לארצות מערב אירופא לשם ארגון סניפי "בית יעקב", "בתי'" ו"בנות אגו"י" כמו כן לאסוף כסף למטרה זו, ושואלת הסכמתי.

הנה אם המטרה היא לארגן סניפי "בית יעקב" וכו' דבר נכון הוא. אבל בנוגע אוסף כסף הנה אם אפשר צריכה להשתמט מזה.

ועל שאלתה אם מסכים אני לטיסה באוירון אם אין אפשרות להפליג באני', הנה בטח תהי' הטיסה בשעת כושר בהנוגע למזג האויר וגם באוירון גדול.

בנוגע לגוף הדבר תמיהני קצת על הענין בידעי המצב בארה"ק ת"ו שיש בה כמה וכמה ילדים וילדות הנצרכים בחינוך כשר בתורה ויראת שמים, אשר בודאי יקר כל כח חינוכי על אתר, ובפרט אשר המצב כזה שבכל עת ובכל שעה ובכל יום חוטפים ילדים וילדות ממקור מחצבתם, אשר אח"כ קשה להחזירם לחינוך הכשר. ובמילא, לכאורה, תחת לנסוע לחוץ לארץ על ספק (אם דרושה עבודה, ואם תמצא לומר יש עבודה מתאימה שם, שמא ישנם הכחות על אתר לטפל בה); בשעה אשר ילדים וילדות למאות ואלפים נמצאים על אתר בסכנת כליון רוחני ח"ו, הרי חוב גדול וקדוש לכל הנמצאים על אתר לעשות כל האפשר להם בהצלת נפשות, ולהשפיע על זולתם להשתתף בעבודה זו, אשר כל המקיים נפש אחת מישראל כאילו קיים עולם מלא, ובפרט עשרות ומאות ואלפים.

אתענין לדעת אם חוג המורות והחברות אשר מתאספות לפרקים לדון בענינים המענינים אותן מעלות על הפרק גם דברי ימי החסידות וענינים מתאימים בתורת החסידות, וחלקה בזה בפרט.
